Casio PX-330: It’s Grand, Baby

The Casio PX-330 is a perfect alternative for those who don’t have the space, or the money, to purchase a “real” piano.

Many people are fascinated with the idea of learning to play a musical instrument, with the piano being at the top of many aspiring musicians’ lists. However, a piano is not always the most practical instrument to have in the home, especially for those who live in a smaller space.  But digital keyboards offer a way to learn and play without having to build an addition to your home.

Digital pianos have come a long way since they were first introduced into the musical market, and the sound and feel of the keyboards now very closely resemble that of a traditional piano. One of the best of these products available at the moment is the Casio Privia PX-330.

This keyboard is also great for musicians who regularly play live, as they can now get that great piano sound, all built into an instrument that is lightweight and very portable. Players who like to compose their own music will also get a kick out of the Casio Privia PX-330, as it can either be hooked up to a computer, or you can simply use the 16-track recorder that is built into the piano. Players can also download files from the web to be used in the PX-330, making it a very versatile instrument for the creative musician.

Besides the 16 track recorder, the PX-330 boasts a number of features that will really appeal to music lovers. The 88-note scale hammer action keyboard is designed to be as close to the real thing as possible, and the clarity of sound is similar to what you would expect to hear out of a baby grand. The digital piano has a compact design without looking cramped in any way, and the USB MIDI interface makes it perfect for the home, or even for those who play live. The duet function makes it a great instrument to learn and teach on, and the 3 pedal unit support means that a stand with pedals can easily be incorporated to add an even more realistic piano feel.

The majority of reviewers at Amazon.com gave the Casio PX-330 4 and 5 star reviews, with 3 stars being the lowest rating that the unit received. The general consensus seems to be that it is a magnificent instrument for the price, with one reviewer, a professional jazz pianist, saying that it was the perfect portable choice for his live performances. On the downside, most complaints seemed to be with the keyboard, and the feeling that it didn’t quite go far enough to get that real piano keyboard feel.

It would appear that the Casio PX-330 is a great choice of instrument for new players and professionals alike, and its sleek, compact design make it perfect for a smaller space. While it may not come completely up to par with a grand piano, this digital version certainly does its best to get as close to there as possible.
